Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Fast-paced inpatient surgical unit
• Care for pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and above depending on procedure
• Surgical specialties include general surgery, abdominal, urological, orthopedic, hysterectomy, mastectomy, spine, and bariatric surgery
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Block scheduling not guaranteed but grouping shifts may be possible

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Experience in Orthopedic Surgery
• Experience in Urological Surgery
• Experience in Bariatric Surgery
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Certifications & Licenses

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) recommended for applicable units
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) may be required depending on unit
• Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., TNCC, NRP)

Work Conditions & Policies

• Local radius rule: 50 miles (locals not accepted)
• Pending licenses not accepted
• Holiday work policy: If one holiday falls in assignment, expect to work it; if two holidays, expect to work one; if three, expect to work two
• Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug test including marijuana within 30 days of start; zero tolerance for THC regardless of medical marijuana card
• Physical exam required within 1 year of start, must be renewed annually
• Fit mask testing required annually (N95 preferred)
• Immunizations and health screenings required (e.g., Tdap, TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccination or approved exemption)
• Background checks required including 7-year criminal background check and federal/state screenings

Additional Requirements

• Must complete facility-specific documents and policies prior to start (e.g., confidentiality agreement, standards of appearance, social media policy)
• References: 2 professional references required
• Current application/resume required
• Skills checklist required and must be updated annually

Patient Population

• Pediatric surgical patients (age 12+)
• Adult surgical patients across multiple surgical specialties

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of medical-surgical experience, preferably with surgical unit exposure. The role requires weekend availability every other weekend and adherence to holiday work policies. Certification in BLS is mandatory, with additional certifications recommended based on unit assignment. Candidates must meet comprehensive health, background, and compliance requirements prior to starting. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
