Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Step Down)

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

• 6 North is a 12-bed step-down unit utilizing critical care and neuroscience principles at the intermediate level.
• Patient populations include transfers from Neuro ICU, neuro trauma, subarachnoid/intraventricular/intracerebral hemorrhage, ENT cancer patients post tumor resection and flap reconstruction, post-operative spine patients, and various neurological conditions.
• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients.
• Shift: Nights
• Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday
• Time off: Can approve 40 hours

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Minimum 1 year of step-down nursing experience, with step-down experience within the last year
• ACLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• Must adhere to UVA’s float policy

• Required years of experience: Minimum 1 year of recent step-down nursing experience

Prior Travel Experience

Compliance and Screening Requirements

• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and others as per facility policy.
• Drug testing: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually.
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Qgold) or chest X-ray if positive
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer (positive required or additional antigen titer)
  • Varicella vaccination or titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination (no exemptions)
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually.
• Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions.

Additional Notes

• Candidate must review and comply with professional appearance guidelines and traveler compliance documents.
• Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles, completed onsite if needed.
• Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit assignment.
• References and clinical skills checklist required.
