Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Twin Falls, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a 13-week travel assignment working 12-hour shifts. The nurse will work primarily on Labor & Delivery and Postpartum/Mother-Baby units with some floating as needed.
Unit Details
- 11 Labor & Delivery rooms (also used as triage rooms)
- 2 C-Section OR suites on the floor
- 2 PACU recovery bays
- 2 designated triage rooms, seeing 4-5 triage patients per day (not including admitted patients)
- 17 Postpartum beds
- Average deliveries: 5-6 per day, 150-180 per month
- Level 3 NICU supporting babies 30+ weeks gestation (babies under 30 weeks stabilized and transferred out)
Staffing & Ratios
- Follows AWHONN staffing guidelines:
- 1:1 for Intrapartum
- 1:1-3 for Antepartum
- 1:3-4 for Postpartum/Mother-Baby
- Charge nurse generally does not take patient assignments unless necessary
- Resource nurse available to assist with triage, deliveries, and staff support
- Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager provide coverage but are not onsite 24/7
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience plus some Postpartum experience
- Comfortable working with high-risk patients and circulating in C-sections
- Must be able to titrate drips (Pitocin, Magnesium, Insulin preferred but training available)
- Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Will NOT accept candidates with only Critical Access Hospital experience
- Preferred: Experience in similar size L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby departments
- Preferred: Epic electronic medical record experience (please specify last use)
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification OR Certified in Fetal Monitoring (NCC)
Work Environment & Support
- OB physician onsite during weekdays, on-call nights
- Neonatologist onsite during the day, Neonatal APP coverage at night
- CRNA anesthesia coverage 24/7 for OB
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 for respiratory treatments and equipment management
- Telemetry techs onsite; RNs expected to identify basic and life-threatening rhythms but not interpret strips
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring systems: EPIC-CPN, GE Connect
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts, 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am
- Schedule made 6 weeks in advance by Assistant Nurse Manager
- Block scheduling considered but not guaranteed
- Staff and travelers cannot work more than 5 shifts in a row
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Holiday rotation participation may be required
- May be called off if needed
- Floating primarily between L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby units; travelers often floated first for sitter shifts
Orientation & Dress Code
- 3 days orientation with preceptor in L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby units
- RN scrub color: Navy blue

- Strong collaborative relationships between providers and nursing staff
- Located in Southern Idaho, ideal for those who enjoy nature and outdoor activities
- Candidates must be located outside a specified radius from the facility for consideration
This position offers a dynamic environment with a focus on high-quality maternal and newborn care in a well-supported Level 3 NICU setting.
