Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical - Trauma)
- Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks out
- Shift Options: 36 or 48 hours per week
- Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (75 mile radius rule)
- Pending License Accepted: Yes
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
- RTO Restrictions: No more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract; missed shifts should be made up ASAP
Required Experience & Skills
Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years in specialty
Required Certifications: BCLS, ACLS
Must pass Relias EKG exam (Interpretation/Management of Dysrhythmias required)
Required Skills:
- Med/Surg nursing
- Blood product administration
- Peripheral line care/management
- Phlebotomy
- Starting IVs
- Insulin administration
- PCA management
- Care for spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic trauma
- Peripheral nerve block catheters
- Total joint replacements
- Surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- Respiratory support: CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
- Oral suctioning
- Isolation precautions
- Wound care/Wound Vac
- Level 1 Trauma experience
Patient Diagnoses: Patients come from ED, OR, or ICU
Unit Services:
- Geriatric trauma (55+ years with trauma)
- Trauma cases including abuse/violence victims, motor vehicle accidents, falls
- Acute care surgery (appendicitis, gallbladders, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, TBI)
Special Equipment Used:
- Lifts
- Restraints
- Wound vacs
- Traction
- External fixators
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Geriatric patients
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Competency in Interpretation and Management of Dysrhythmias
- Blood product administration skills
- Peripheral line care and management
- Phlebotomy skills
- Ability to start IVs
- Insulin administration experience
- PCA management experience
- Management of spinal cord injuries
