Registered Nurse - Med Surg Neuro (Travel)

Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (up to 26 weeks upon request)
Shift: Nights, 7 PM - 7 AM
Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36 (48 hours available upon request)
Weekend Requirement: Every other full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) expected
Holidays: Expected to work at least one major summer or winter holiday

Unit & Patient Information

• Department: Neurosciences (Med Surg Neuro)
• Number of Beds: 17
• Patient Ratios: 1:6
• Patient Population: Medical and Surgical Neuro patients (e.g., Parkinson’s, Stroke, Lumbar conditions)
• No trauma patients on unit
• Equipment: Standard, including IV pumps
• EMR System: EPIC

Job Summary

Provide nursing care by developing nursing diagnoses, establishing care objectives, and delivering physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families. Monitor patient conditions, modify treatment plans as needed, and collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure quality care.

Essential Functions

• Adhere to professional standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
• Maintain safe and healthy patient care environment
• Document patient care accurately
• Monitor and report changes in patient condition
• Educate patients and families on health management and disease prevention
• Administer medications, wound care, IV therapy (including central lines)
• Recognize and respond to adverse signs and emergency situations
• Supervise and delegate to unlicensed assistive personnel
• Promote patient safety and act as patient advocate
• Attend Neuroscience Nursing course as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of neurology experience, including experience within the last year
• Med Surg nursing experience
• Experience in charge nurse roles or willingness to learn and take on charge duties
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Neuro and Stroke nursing highly preferred
• Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team
• Attentive and caring toward patient outcomes

Additional Information

• Float requirements: Will float to Med Surg and Progressive units as customary
• Dress code: Black scrubs required
• Time off: Up to 5 days off per 13-week contract automatically approved; additional time off subject to approval and may require make-up time
• Call requirements: None
