Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Medical Surgical (MS)
  • Shift Options: Can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
  • Patient Ratio: 1:6
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Medical Surgical)
  • First Time Traveler: Yes, first-time travelers accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes

Specialty & Patient Population

  • Acute medicine with patient population including diabetes, renal issues, COPD, abdominal rule outs
  • Does not care for surgical patients
  • Telemetry experience preferred
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam; interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required

Required Certifications

  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Must have current professional nursing license (RN) valid in Missouri (pending licenses accepted)
  • Relias Basic Dysrhythmia or equivalent EKG competency exam (must be completed within 1 year of start and updated annually)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID (e.g., driver's license or state ID)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Fit mask testing (N95 respirator) with annual renewal
  • Various facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, hand hygiene policy, dress code policy, and orientation modules (approx. 16 hours) completed prior to start
  • Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months of start)

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete unit-specific competency exams annually, including oncology competency if assigned to oncology unit
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Skills checklist specific to unit required within 1 year of start
  • No local candidates accepted (must live at least 75 miles away)

Work Environment

  • Short Term Acute Care facility
  • Magnet & Teaching hospital, Level I Trauma Center
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • RN uniform scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Weekend work required every other weekend

Notes

  • Candidates must be able to pass the Relias EKG exam focused on dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
  • Floating within scope is expected to meet unit needs.
  • No block scheduling available.
  • Pending licenses accepted to start.
  • Return to origin (RTO) days limited to 7 days per 13-week contract.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

This position is ideal for a Medical Surgical RN with at least 2 years of experience, comfortable with telemetry and acute medical patients, and willing to commit to a 12-week travel contract in Missouri.
