Registered Nurse (RN) – Clinical Support Unit (Critical Care)

Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

This position is for a Registered Nurse in a float pool supporting multiple units across several facilities. Nurses will float within their specialty area and may be assigned to different units or facilities as needed, including serving as 1:1 sitters.


Units Included in Float Pool

  • Emergency Room (ER)
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Medical-Surgical (MedSurg)
  • Telemetry (Tele)
  • Labor & Delivery / Postpartum (L&D/PP)
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Patient Ratios

  • ER: 1:4
  • ICU: 1:1 to 1:2
  • MedSurg: 1:5
  • Telemetry: 1:4
  • Pediatrics: 1:3
  • NICU: 1:4

Shifts & Scheduling

  • 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • No self-scheduling; block scheduling attempted but not guaranteed
  • Weekend and holiday shifts as needed
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Mid-shift floating to different units/facilities possible

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – required for all
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required for ER, ICU, and Telemetry
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certifications preferred

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty area
  • Prior travel experience required
  • Labor & Delivery travelers highly preferred to have antepartum and mother-baby experience

Clinical Responsibilities

  • RNs will titrate drips in ICU, ER, Telemetry, MedSurg, and PICU units
  • Common titratable drips include insulin on MedSurg units
  • Interpretation of telemetry/monitoring required in ICU, ER, Telemetry, and PICU; L&D requirements to be confirmed

Support & Leadership

  • Charge nurse present on all units
  • Float pool has assistant managers and leadership team available 24/7 for support
  • Nurse aides/patient care technicians available with ratios ranging from 1:8 to 1:10 depending on unit and shift

Orientation

  • Meet and greet on day 1
  • Three shifts of inpatient orientation specific to unit/department

Additional Notes

  • Nurses will be assigned units and facilities approximately 1 hour before shift start via an app
  • Facilities are within about 20 minutes of each other with safe parking available
  • Dress code: clean and professional scrubs, no specific color required
  • Radius rule: candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be considered

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Idaho
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with at least one year within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
