Job Opportunity: RN Step Down

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Placement on a unit with the greatest need: PCU, Med-Surg, or Telemetry Acute Care.
  • Candidates with skills in Med-Surg or Stepdown nursing are accepted (same credentialing for both).
  • Must be able to float onsite within skill set or to sites within 40 miles if needed.
  • Requires 2 years of experience in PCU / Med-Surg Telemetry Acute Care.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Wisconsin.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with at least some PCU experience within the last year.
  • Experience in Med-Surg nursing.
  • Experience in Acute Care nursing.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Documented proof of two MMR vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted).
  • Fit test required prior to or on start (specific mask types required).
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination.
  • Influenza vaccine required during flu season (exemptions accepted with mask requirement).
  • Varicella immunity proof or vaccination (no declinations accepted).
  • Tdap vaccination valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
  • TB screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA testing with annual updates; positive results require chest X-ray and questionnaire.
  • Health statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
  • 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.

Documentation and Verification Requirements

  • Professional resume/profile and at least two professional references.
  • Current license and primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
  • Nursys license verification within 30 days prior to start.
  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and others within 30 days prior to start; updated annually or after breaks in service.
  • Employment verification for the past seven years; updated annually or after breaks in service.
  • Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days prior to start; updated after breaks in service.
  • Signed assignment agreement and confirmation of assignment documents.
  • Badge photo (headshot with white or blue background).

Skills and Competency Testing

  • Specialty exam demonstrating competency in the area of specialization (minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years).
  • Core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA topics (minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years).
  • EKG exam with a minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years.
  • Color vision test prior to start and updated every 3 years.
  • Skills checklist completed within one year of start and updated annually.
  • Epic test-out and training checklist with signed attestation.

Additional Notes

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or state ID matching address on file.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Onboarding includes completion of specific education attestations and modules.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with a background in step-down, PCU, or Med-Surg telemetry nursing seeking a long-term travel assignment in Wisconsin.
