Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Pocatello, Idaho

Job Details

• Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts
• Patient Ratios: 1:6
• Unit Size: 48 beds/rooms
• Float: Yes, with required competencies
• Patient Diagnoses Include:

  • Sepsis
  • CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment)
  • Confusion, Altered Mental Status (AMS)
  • COPD
  • Post-operative care
  • Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
  • Trauma
  • Respiratory failure
  • Bowel obstruction
  • Pyelonephritis
  • Cardiac conditions
  • Diabetes
  • Gastrointestinal conditions
  • Isolation precautions
  • Suicidal ideation with medical indications

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Idaho
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic medical records system

• Apply the Nursing Process across all age groups: infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Thorough documentation following regulatory and hospital standards
• Maintain clinical competencies and support professional development
• Work varied shifts including weekends and holidays
• Provide safe, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment

Skills and Abilities

• Good judgment and patience in patient care
• Ability to work in a busy, changing environment with evolving patient safety requirements
• Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic medical records
• Strong organizational and workload management skills
• Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills
• Advanced math skills
• Critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and decision-making abilities

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background checks including 7-year history and education verification
• Drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days of start
• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
• Immunizations and titers as required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella (positive titer, vaccination, or documented history)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Photo for badge
• Driver’s license or state ID

Additional Notes

• Must be able to pass competency exams as applicable
• Must be able to work in compliance with all hospital policies and safety protocols
• Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory
