Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Assignment Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide direct patient care on a Medical-Surgical unit during day shifts (17:00 - 09:30). Care for Med/Surg patients in a 15-bed unit with potential expansion. May be floated to other units as needed.


Schedule & Hours

  • Shift: Days
  • Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
  • Weekend Hours: As required, typically every other weekend
  • Call: None
  • Orientation for night shift occurs on day shift; availability for full week orientation required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience in an inpatient setting within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Unit & Patient Care Information

  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5-6 on days (not guaranteed)
  • Equipment used includes Nova Meters (blood glucose), Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo pumps, and SCD machines
  • Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC
  • Provides care for diverse patient population with medical comorbidities, post-trauma, and surgical interventions

Job Responsibilities

  • Utilize nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care
  • Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
  • Adhere to professional accountability and facility standards
  • May involve physical demands such as standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and exposure to blood/body fluids

Additional Requirements

  • Flu vaccination required (November 1 - April 1), no declinations accepted
  • Dress code: Black scrubs; no open-toed shoes or unacceptable attire

  • Frequent standing and walking
  • Bending, stooping, lifting, turning patients with assistance
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids
  • Physical ability to push, pull, grip, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed
