Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks (preferred; 13 weeks acceptable)
Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from assignment compliance tier
Job Description
- Position in a high-acuity Cardiac ICU (CVICU) / Critical Care Unit (CCU)
- Patient ratio: 1:2
- Requires experience in Cardiac/CVICU ICU nursing
- No neuro ICU experience accepted
- Float within service line as needed
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Guaranteed hours: 36 hours per week (can sign for 36 or 48 hours)
- Local candidates not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
- Pending license accepted
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU nursing experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- EKG competency
Clinical Skills & Special Requirements
- Ventilator management
- Arterial line management
- Pulmonary artery catheter management
- Pacemakers, Impellas, Balloon pumps, LVADs
- Management of acute heart failure, CHF exacerbation, fluid overload
- Post cardiac arrest care, complete heart block, cardiogenic shock
- Pre-heart transplant care
- Arrhythmias, ventricular tachycardia
- Vasoactive drips, central lines, PA/TVP catheter monitoring
- Dialysis and Foley catheter care
- Intra-aortic balloon pumps
Scheduling & Time Off
- Weekend shifts every other weekend required
- On-call not required
- Time off allowed: up to 2 requests, max 40 hours (5 days) during contract
Licensing
- Registered Nurse license valid in Missouri required
- Primary source verification of professional license required
- NURSYS verification required for Missouri licenses
- Pending licenses accepted
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with history documentation if positive)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Various facility-specific compliance documents and acknowledgements required (e.g., HIPAA, confidentiality, hand hygiene, dress code)
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Unit-specific competency exams required and must be updated annually
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Ability to float within the service line when needed
