Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job in Montrose, New York

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse to provide professional nursing care to residents in a long-term care setting. The nurse will coordinate, direct, and deliver nursing services under supervision, including assessments, care planning, medication administration, and collaboration with healthcare teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse license in New York State
  • Minimum 1 year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience (preferred)
  • Experience with geriatric population in long-term care (preferred)
  • Experience serving the Veteran population (preferred)

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct nursing assessments and record health information and vital signs
  • Prepare, implement, and modify nursing care plans
  • Assist with examinations and treatments; administer medications and nursing procedures as prescribed
  • Monitor and document symptoms, conditions, and responses to medication or health changes
  • Serve as nursing representative on treatment teams; coordinate care with other disciplines
  • Make clinical rounds to assess nursing care needs and observe nursing services
  • Provide health teaching, counseling, and education to individuals and families
  • Implement infection control protocols and provide related staff instruction
  • Maintain and update charts, records, and documentation per regulatory requirements
  • Monitor inventories of medications, supplies, and equipment
  • Delegate nursing activities to appropriate staff and supervise nursing care delivery
  • Act as liaison to outside agencies to ensure continuity of care and follow-up
  • May supervise Graduate Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Required Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (for RNs)
  • Competency Exam (required for all candidates)

Background and Health Requirements

  • Criminal background check including fingerprinting (to be completed onsite except for certain locations)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months prior to start
  • Annual TB questionnaire completion
  • Vaccination documentation or titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug testing (9 panel) within 1 year of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination for 2025-26
  • COVID-19 vaccine booster preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required
  • New York State Medicaid enrollment may be required depending on assignment location

This position involves working in a long-term care environment with a focus on geriatric and veteran populations. Candidates should be prepared for a thorough credentialing and background check process consistent with state and federal regulations.
