Registered Nurse - ED Boarding/PCU Float
Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Float position primarily on an ED HOLD unit with MS and PCU type patients in the ED boarding area.
- RN will care for stable patients boarded from the ED until discharge or transfer to inpatient units.
- May float to an inpatient PCU unit when no patients are on the boarding unit.
- Unit size fluctuates between 4 beds and up to 8-10 beds depending on staffing and patient acuity.
- Team nursing model used at times, working with LPNs and CNAs; RN must be comfortable with delegation and team nursing.
- Patient ratios vary, typically 1:5-6.
- Shift schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- First-time travelers are not accepted.
Required Qualifications & Compliance
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Indiana.
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year.
- One completed travel assignment.
- Certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification.
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
Required Skills & Certifications
- Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) required.
- Cerner electronic health record system experience required.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
Work Environment & Additional Details
- Boarding unit with stable patients; unstable patients are moved out.
- Staffing may include RN/LPN or RN/CNA teams depending on acuity.
- Guaranteed hours vary by shift pattern (36-48 hours per week).
- No on-call required.
- Local candidates are not accepted.
