Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with oncology experience to work in a tertiary care hospital setting. The role involves caring for patients with various types of cancer across all phases of care, including inpatient chemotherapy administration and post-operative care for uro-gynecological and gynecological oncology surgical patients. The position includes working in a primary oncology unit and a step-down neuro overflow unit.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage patient ratios approximately 1:5
  • Administer inpatient chemotherapy regimens
  • Provide post-surgical care for uro-gynecological and gynecological oncology patients
  • Float between departments, units, and facilities as needed within scope
  • Work holiday shifts and charge RN assignments as required
  • Complete 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
  • Provide care for neurological patients in step-down unit (strokes, head bleeds, neurological needs)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Work Environment

  • Inpatient oncology unit in a tertiary care, teaching hospital with Level 1 trauma designation
  • Magnet recognized facility (5-time Magnet award)
  • Use of EPIC electronic charting system
  • Free parking available

Schedule & Floating

  • 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
  • Floating between units and departments regularly as needed
  • Holiday shifts and charge RN assignments as needed
  • No block scheduling accommodation
  • Locals accepted
  • Pending licenses accepted

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete required background checks and verifications including criminal background, education, and license verification
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start required and must remain valid throughout assignment
  • Immunizations and health screenings required: Tdap, TB testing, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), varicella, flu vaccination or exemption, and others as applicable
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Completion of unit-specific competency exams including oncology competency and dysrhythmia/EKG competency
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance training modules
  • Professional references required (two, preferably supervisors within last year)
  • Skills checklist specific to oncology required within 1 year of start

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required; first-time travelers are accepted
  • Floating and flexibility within scope of practice expected
  • Charge RN experience and teaching hospital experience preferred but not required
