Job Details

- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 2 weekends per month

Job Description Highlights
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start (required for all Medsurg nurses regardless of sub-specialty)
- Certifications required: BLS (Basic Life Support) mandatory; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) preferred
- EMR system used: Cerner
- Medication system: Omnicell
Required Qualifications
- License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Tennessee (Compact or Single State)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – required for all candidates
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – preferred
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) – required for all RN candidates
- Competencies:
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher within 12 months prior to start)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) with minimum 80% pass rate, updated annually
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara test or equivalent within 12 months)
- Other:
- Must be able to float to other units as needed
- Must be able to work with a patient ratio of approximately 1:7-8
Experience Requirements
- Minimum years of specialty experience: Not explicitly stated (assume standard for Medsurg RN roles)

Health and Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, confirming fitness for duty
- Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; chest x-ray if prior positive TB
- Drug screening within 45 days of start, including a comprehensive panel of substances
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B – vaccine series, titer, or declination
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Flu vaccine required for starts on or after 9/8/2025 (exemptions only for medical/religious reasons)
- Background check covering 7 years, including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, abuse registry, and federal/statewide searches
- Two supervisory references from the past 3 years
- Employment application with 7-year work history and no unexplained gaps over 30 days
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated within the last year

- Photo for badge required (passport style, solid background, no filters or facial piercings)
- Must complete onboarding attestation and review job description prior to start
- Holiday time off requests generally not accommodated; exceptions handled onsite after arrival
