Travel Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department
Location: Kirksville, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (6 PM - 6 AM), weekends required
Job Description
- Provide nursing care for patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) of all ages, from neonates to elderly.
- Manage patients across all Emergency Severity Index (ESI) levels 1-5, with an average patient ratio of 4-5:1 (ESI level 3 average).
- Care for stroke, STEMI, trauma, and sepsis patients.
- Perform rapid triage and patient assessment.
- Collaborate as part of a team to direct patients to beds whenever possible.
- Perform clinical skills including peripheral IV (PIV) insertion, nasogastric/orogastric (NG/OG) tube placement, Foley catheter insertion, splinting, and wound care.
- Utilize ultrasound-guided IV insertion (preferred).
- Assist with arterial line, central line, and chest tube placement.
- Respond to call lights and transport patients as needed.
- Manage psychiatric patients boarding in the ED until placement is found, including making placement calls during nights and weekends.
- Float to other departments as needed; float rotation averages 1 shift per 13-week period.
- Use EMR system (EDIS Medhost) and Omnicell medication dispensing system (no barcode medication administration currently).
- Mix medication drips on night shift using vial-to-bag adapters.
- Ensure completion of EMTALA paperwork according to regulatory guidelines.

- ED unit beds: 11
- Monthly ED volume: Approximately 1100 patients
- Designations: Level III Trauma Center, Chest Pain/STEMI Center, Joint Commission Acute Ready Stroke Center
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
