Registered Nurse - Behavioral Health

Job Description

• Shift options: 2x12-hour shifts and 2x8-hour shifts or 5x8-hour shifts available.
• Responsible for passing medications for up to 25 patients with psychiatric experience required.
• Duties include writing shift notes, conducting and documenting nursing assessments, and preparing weekly/monthly notes.
• Staffing may include 2-3 RNs per unit; all RNs work collaboratively with Mental Health Therapy Aides to foster a therapeutic environment.
• One nurse will be assigned as charge RN per shift.
• Overtime must be approved by nursing leadership and is generally discouraged unless filling a vacancy.
• Shift swaps require approval and proper documentation.
• Meal breaks are 30 minutes and cannot be combined with 15-minute breaks; if unable to take a break, notify nursing supervisor immediately with documentation.
• Sleeping or resting on patient units is not allowed; breaks must be taken in non-patient areas only.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Behavioral Health nursing experience of at least 1 year, with experience within the last year required.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• State nursing license in good standing.
