Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Massena, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department (combined Adult/Pediatrics) with experience in managing a variety of emergency care situations including dysrhythmias, blood product administration, procedural sedation, ventilated patient care, and triage.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment; traveler experience required (unit does not accept first-time travelers)
  • Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • Harassment Prevention Training Certificate
  • General Emergency Department (combined Adult/Pediatrics) experience
  • Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias
  • Experience administering procedural sedation
  • Experience caring for stroke (CVA) and head injury patients
  • Experience caring for ventilated patients
  • Experience managing and maintaining BiPAP/CPAP

Skills Required

  • General Emergency Department care (Adult and Pediatric)
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Blood product administration
  • Phlebotomy
  • Starting and maintaining IVs, including IV vasopressors
  • Procedural sedation administration
  • Care for stroke (CVA) and head injury patients
  • Care of ventilated patients
  • BiPAP/CPAP management and maintenance
  • Isolation precautions and PPE use
  • Triage skills

Work Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3 on all shifts
  • Return to Office (RTO) time: 7 days maximum
  • Orientation: 48 hours
  • Unit systems used: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
  • Scrubs: No color specifications

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check including all aliases and multiple registry checks
  • Education verification for nursing degree
  • Various certifications and competency exams as required by specialty and facility
  • Health documents including:
    • Physical exam (within 1 year)
    • Fit mask test (within 1 year)
    • Immunizations and titers (Tdap, TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccination or declination)
    • Drug testing within 30 days of start
    • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
  • Annual harassment prevention training (New York requirement)
  • Medication and dysrhythmia competency exams
  • Professional references and employment verification

Additional Notes

  • Must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing (if booked within 30 days of start).
  • Strict adherence to expiration dates on health documents; renewals required prior to expiration during contract.
  • Candidates who fail fit mask test may use PAPR with required education and documentation.
  • Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season; receipts not accepted.

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses with prior travel experience who are licensed in New York and meet the required certifications and health compliance standards.
