Job Opportunity: Pediatric Behavioral Health Registered Nurse
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Description
- Acute In-Patient Behavioral Health RN in a Pediatric Psychiatric Hospital setting.
- Patient Ratios: 1:12 for Days, Nights, and Weekends.
- Weekend Requirement: Every Sunday shift or every Friday shift or every other Friday shift.
- No floating outside scope of practice.
- First-time travelers accepted.
- Local candidates accepted.
- No pending licenses accepted.
- Maximum of 7 days Return to Office (RTO) restrictions.
- Guaranteed minimum of 3 shifts per 13 weeks.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Behavioral Health experience
- Behavioral Health experience within the last year
- CPI or MANDT certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
Skills & Patient Care Focus
- Experience in treatment settings including Child/Adolescents, Eating Disorders, Forensic, Geriatric, Inpatient, Locked Unit, Medical/Psych, Outpatient, Residential/Group Home, Substance Use/Chemical Dependency.
- Care for patients with:
- Anxiety disorders, Bipolar Disorders, Depressive disorders, Eating Disorders, Personality disorders, PTSD, Psychotic Disorders, Schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, Substance use, Suicidal behavior, Trauma-and Stressor-Related Disorders.
- Emergency care skills: Cardiac arrest/CPR, emergent chemical restraints, physical hold protocols.
- Legal aspects: Use of seclusion, voluntary/involuntary commitment.
- Medication administration (PO, RECTAL, IM, IV, SC, etc.).
- Starting and maintaining IVs.
- Blood glucose monitoring and lab value interpretation.
- Therapeutic approaches: Behavior management, crisis intervention, de-escalation, managing assaultive behavior, psychoeducation.
Facility & Work Environment
- Pediatric Psychiatric Hospital with 46 staffed beds.
- Magnet designated facility.
- Charting system: EPIC.
- Scrub color: Navy blue for RNs.
- Free parking available.
Compliance & Background Checks
- Multi-step Missouri state background check (MoVechs) required; process takes minimum 3 weeks.
- Criminal background check within 6 months required.
- Various state-specific background checks and verifications required.
- Education verification required.
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include a comprehensive panel.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask testing required annually.
- Immunizations and titers required: Tdap, TB testing, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
- Multiple facility-specific documents and acknowledgements required prior to start.
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required.
- Employment application must be completed.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start.
- No on-call required.
- No block scheduling accommodations.
- Must be responsive and complete all required documentation promptly to avoid cancellation or delayed start.
This position is ideal for RNs with pediatric behavioral health experience seeking a travel contract in a specialized acute inpatient psychiatric setting.
