Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU
Location: Aurora, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, rotating
- Days of the Week: Various
- Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, floating within scope to meet unit needs
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Based on acuity; ranges from 1:1, 1:2, to 2:1
- Charting System: Epic
- Unit Size: 17 staffed beds
- Specialty Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Patient Population: Critically ill adults requiring comprehensive circulatory and respiratory support, including open-heart surgeries, ventricular assist devices, heart and lung transplants, ECMO, aortic aneurysm repair, vascular and thoracic surgeries
- Team Approach: Multidisciplinary with focus on holistic health, supportive education, and improving outcomes
- Scrub Color: Navy
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Colorado
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid I-9 or attestation
- Driver’s License/State ID (clear copies front and back)
- Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, and various federal/state screenings
- Education verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE or ACEN)
- Annual competencies and exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, core parts I-III, OSHA mandatory training
- Physical exam within 1 year signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA (not Chiropractor)
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (specific mask types required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or signed declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility exemption during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccination or signed declination
- Drug testing within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Color blind exam (Ishihara test) required prior to start (online testing not accepted)
- References: 2 references from last 2 years, including one from last year, from charge RN, manager, or supervisor
- Employment history verification for last 3 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
- State-specific CAPS check within 60 days of start
Additional Notes
- Maximum of 10 Return to Office (RTO) days approved with blackout periods in May and June/July 2026
- Flexibility may be considered for harder-to-fill positions
- Candidates must confirm renewal plans for certifications expiring within 90 days of assignment start
- Facility-specific new employee orientation modules must be completed within first two weeks of assignment
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity CVICU environment with a multidisciplinary team focused on advanced cardiac and respiratory care. Ideal candidates will have strong CVICU experience, required certifications, and the ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts including weekends.
