Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU

Location: Aurora, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, rotating schedule
  • Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, floating within scope to meet unit needs
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Based on acuity; ranges from 1:1, 1:2, to 2:1
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Total Staffed Beds: 17
  • Specialty Focus:
    • Care for critically ill adults requiring comprehensive circulatory and respiratory support
    • Open-heart surgeries, ventricular assist devices, heart and lung transplants, ECMO, aortic aneurysm repair, vascular and thoracic surgeries
    • Multidisciplinary team approach focusing on holistic health and supportive education

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Colorado
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid RN license verification (NURSYS) within 60 days of start
  • Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, and various federal/state screenings within 60 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start and updated annually (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or signed declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific exemption during flu season
    • COVID-19 vaccination proof or signed declination
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Color Blindness exam (Ishihara test) required prior to start (online testing not accepted)
  • Annual competencies including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, OSHA, and core competency exams with minimum passing scores
  • References: 2 references from the last 2 years, including one from the last year, preferably from Charge RN, Manager, or Supervisor
  • Employment history verification for the last 3 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days

Additional Notes

  • Maximum of 10 Return to Office (RTO) days allowed, with blackout periods in May and June/July 2026
  • Scrub color: Navy
  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position

This role offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity CVICU environment with a multidisciplinary team focused on advanced cardiac and respiratory care. The position requires strong critical care skills, flexibility to float, and commitment to weekend coverage.
