Job Description

• Unit: Emergency Room (ER)
• Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of RN experience in specialty
• First-time Travelers: Not accepted
• Weekend Requirement: Yes, every third weekend or 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
• On-call: No
• Floating: Yes, may float within scope to other metro emergency departments and units as needed
• Holiday Shifts & Charge RN: May be required as needed
• Local Candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
• Pending License: Not accepted
• Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks
• Facility Type: Community Hospital with 240 staffed beds
• Charting System: EPIC
• Scrub Color: Navy

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with ED experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Pediatrics

• Abdominal pain, asthma, burns, epiglottitis, head injury, hyperglycemia
• Identifying and reporting abuse
• Infections, mental/behavioral health conditions
• Poison ingestion, respiratory infections, seizures
• Sickle cell crisis, skin disorders, urinary tract infections

Psychiatric

• Acute psychosis, drug overdose
• Managing violent behavior, psychiatric hold, suicidal patients

IV Therapy/Phlebotomy

• Arterial line management
• Blood product administration
• Central line care/management
• Phlebotomy, starting IVs

Respiratory

• Chest tube insertion/management
• CPAP/BiPAP
• Interpretation of ABGs
• Intubation, ventilated patients

Medications

• Continuous IV paralytics and sedation
• Emergency medications
• IV vasopressors

Neurological

• Stroke (CVA) care

Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response

• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
• Obtaining 12 lead EKG

Professional Topics and Skills

• Isolation precautions
• Triage

Orthopedics

• Manage and apply splints

Preferred Skills

• Pediatrics: Near drowning cases
• Medications: Procedural sedation administration

Additional Information

• Background Checks: Criminal background check within 6 months required, including statewide and nationwide searches
• Education Verification: Verification of highest nursing education required before start
• Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exams required annually, including dysrhythmia/EKG competency within 12 months
• Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam within 1 year
  • Fit mask testing (N95) annually
  • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, TB screening, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
  • Drug testing within 1 year, must include standard panels
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
• Facility Policies: Must review and sign policies including hand hygiene, dress code, fingernail policy, confidentiality, latex allergy questionnaire, HIPAA acknowledgment, and regulatory compliance education annually
• References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
• Skills Checklist: Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start

Required License

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri
