Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Norton, Virginia

Job Details

• Schedule: 36/36 with rotating weekends and holidays
• No on-call required
• Floating between units required
• Traveler’s permanent residence must be at least 100 miles from the hospital service area
• General orientation begins on Sundays (online CBLs) with 16 hours of nonbillable orientation
• Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
• Additional overtime shifts may be assigned flexibly based on census/resource needs
• Contract nurses expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Virginia
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred (AHA only; RQI accepted)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC)

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
• Med Surg nursing experience of at least 1 year, with experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NURSYS Verification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Orientation & Compliance

• Orientation includes online and onsite components totaling 16 hours
• Photo for badge required within 48 hours of contract signing
• Completion of facility-specific forms and policies (e.g., exposure statements, smoking/tobacco use, influenza policy)
• Physical exam required within 1 year of start date

Additional Notes

• No prior travel experience explicitly required
• Participation in clinical education for nursing students is expected
• Floating and flexibility in scheduling required due to census fluctuations
