Registered Nurse - LTACH (PCU/MS/Tele Skillset)
Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with recent experience in Med-Surg (MS) and Telemetry (Tele) to care for a high-acuity patient population in a Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) setting. Patients range from med-surg level to ventilated/intubated, including post-open heart surgery, cystic fibrosis, vent weaning, pulmonary fibrosis, and sepsis cases.
Shift Details
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12 day shifts)
- Float required
- Every third weekend required (8 weekend shifts per contract)
- Self-scheduling available
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 1 year of recent Coronary Care Unit (CCU) experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Med-Surg and Telemetry experience
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing
- State License 1 Verification
- NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
Facility & Patient Population Highlights
- Long-Term Acute Care setting with high-acuity patients
- Patients include post-open heart surgery, cystic fibrosis, vent weaning, pulmonary fibrosis, and sepsis from wounds
- Care involves longer hospital stays before discharge to home, rehab, or skilled nursing
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
- Background checks including national and state criminal checks, sex offender registry, and employment verifications
- Education verification (official transcript or diploma)
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within last 12 months
- Immunizations/vaccinations: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccine (or approved exemption)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Fit mask testing completed onsite
- Professional references (2) within last 3 years
- Skills checklist and work history verification
Testing & Competency Exams
- Basic Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (minimum 84% to pass, max 2 attempts; ICU has one attempt only)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication knowledge
Orientation & Training
- Agency nurse orientation quiz (minimum 84% to pass)
- Onsite AVADE training required if extending past initial contract (varies by unit)
