Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MedSurg/Telemetry
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts
Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty (MedSurg/Telemetry)
Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
Local Candidates: Must live within 75-mile radius
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a MedSurg/Telemetry unit with a patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:7.
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
- Use of Rapid Response and Code teams.
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including peripheral line care/management.
- Respiratory care including nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, and non-invasive airway management.
- Adherence to isolation precautions.
- Floating to other units as required within skillset.
- Charting experience required with EPIC electronic medical record system.
Required Certifications
- New York State Registered Nurse License (must have license in hand before start; no exceptions)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
- NIH Stroke Certification (as required by unit)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of MedSurg/Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system
Facility & Unit Information
- The unit specializes in acute stroke and neurological disorders as well as acute medical patients.
- The unit uses an adjustable acuity delivery care model focused on evidence-based stroke care.
- Facility is a tertiary care hospital with over 500 staffed beds.
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, sex offender registry, education verification, and eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Physical exam and health-related requirements must be completed within 5 days of contract signing.
- Immunizations and health screenings required: TB test or chest X-ray, flu vaccination or declination, Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, and drug screening.
- Fit mask testing required annually.
- References and employment verifications required.
- State-specific requirements including criminal background and registry checks as applicable.
Important Notes
- Floating to other units may be required.
- Candidates must be prepared to work every other weekend.
- This position accepts first-time travel nurses.
- All health and compliance documentation must be completed promptly to meet onboarding deadlines.
