Registered Nurse - CVPICU
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (36 hours/week or 4x12s, 48 hours)
Start Date: ASAP, ideally within 4-6 weeks
Job Description
- Must have at least 12 months (1 year) of experience in a traveler setting; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
- Experience in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU/CVPICU) must be clearly demonstrated in work history.
- Critical care nursing experience required.
- May float to cardiac medical-surgical floor to assist with patients.
- Certifications required: PALS, ACLS, BLS.
- Position is in a pediatric critical care unit.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CVPICU), with experience within the last year.
- At least 1 year of total travel nursing experience.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA only, HeartCode accepted, PEARS acceptable in lieu of PALS except for Behavioral Health RNs.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA only, RQI not accepted.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA only, HeartCode accepted, RQI not accepted.
Prior Travel Experience
- Prior travel experience required: Must have completed at least one prior travel contract in pediatric CICU.
Required Documents & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service).
- Proof of E-Verify or attestation.
- Background check within 3 months of start, including county and statewide searches for Missouri and Kansas.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 6 months.
- State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification (for RNs).
- Pass/fail medication and EKG competency testing (100% required).
- Pediatric pharmacology competency exam.
- Color blindness testing.
- Physical exam updated annually.
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray as required
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B proof or titers
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (no declinations accepted)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start.
- Facility-specific forms including health form, TB questionnaire, medication review packet, and orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
- References: Two supervisory references or performance evaluations verified within 1 year of start.
- Skills checklist for pediatric nursing as applicable.

- Facility is a Magnet, Teaching, Level I Trauma Center with Level IV NICU.
- Pediatric-focused environment with approximately 390 staffed beds.
- Charting system: Cerner.
- Parking is free with a permit.
- Scrub colors: Any kid-friendly color or pattern.
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric critical care travel nurses with prior travel assignments in CICU/CVPICU who are licensed in Missouri and Kansas or hold a compact license. Night shift availability and flexibility to float to cardiac med-surg are required.
