Job Overview

• Small pediatric unit with a maximum census of 3 patients.
• Patient-to-nurse ratio is 3:1.
• No second nurse scheduled on the unit; backup available from Family Birthplace staff.
• Security badge with panic button provided for immediate help.
• Respiratory and IV therapists available to support the unit.
• Family involvement encouraged with "rooming in" for parents.
• Playroom and in-room activities available for patients without contagious illness.
• Call-outs are not allowed; reliability and dependability are critical.
• Requested time off must be noted upfront; no more than 3 days of time off will be approved during the assignment.
• Block scheduling will not be considered.
• One holiday off may be approved.
• Local travelers residing within 50 miles will not be considered.
• Traveler must have their own vehicle.

Required Qualifications

• License: Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license (must be uploaded with profile).
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of current pediatric nursing experience required.
• Pediatric and Medical-Surgical skills checklists current within 1 year (documentation required).
• American Heart Association certifications required and current:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• BSN preferred.
• Meditech Expanse experience strongly preferred.
• Adult Medical-Surgical experience preferred (for float coverage).
• Permanent address must be included in profile.
• Work history and skills checklist documentation required.

Additional Notes

• Non-billable orientation includes 8 hours.
• OT and holiday multipliers apply.
• Call and call-back are not applicable for this assignment.
• Travelers must have voicemail set up and be reachable by phone; those without voicemail will be redirected.

Specialty Requirements

• Pediatric nursing experience is essential due to the unique needs of children and adolescents.
• Emphasis on family-centered care and patient safety.

This position is ideal for experienced pediatric RNs who are dependable, have strong pediatric and medical-surgical skills, and are comfortable working independently in a small unit setting.
