Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse
- Shift: 4x10 hour shifts (06:45 AM - 5:15 PM)
- Rooms: 23 operating rooms
- Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend per month
- On-Call Requirement: Yes, approximately 1 per week (less frequent recently)
- Floating: Rarely, only within skill set
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted; must live at least 50 miles from facility
- Charting System: Cerner
- Scrub Color: Provided
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience working with Level I Trauma patients
- Bariatric surgery experience
- Neurology surgery experience
- Orthopedic surgery experience
- Plastic Surgery experience
- Transplant surgery experience
- Urology surgery experience
Required Experience & Skills
- General OR and Trauma experience required
- Must have experience with all service lines except Cardiovascular (CV)
- Cerner experience preferred
Case Experience Requirements:
- Bariatric: Laparoscopic assisted cases
- General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Partial/total Thyroidectomy, Whipple procedure
- Neurology: Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
- Orthopedic: Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, Closed and Open reduction of fractures
- Plastic Surgery: Free Flap - Microvascular
- Transplant: Organ donation
- Urology: Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy
- Trauma: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor vehicle accident (multiple injuries)
- Emergency Management: Code response, Fire safety, Latex allergy management, Malignant Hyperthermia
Equipment/Instrumentation Experience:
- Electrosurgical units
- Fiber optic light sources/cords
- Hana tables
Professional Knowledge and Skills:
- Administration of blood products
- Infection control
- Radiation safety
- Specimen handling/labeling
- Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure
- Urinary bladder catheterization
Additional Information
- All requested time off must be approved by management
- Up to 36 hours of call-off time allowed per 13-week assignment without pay obligation
- Badge photo required before start
- Candidate must complete facility-specific documents including code of conduct and parking permit forms
- Fingerprints must be completed in Illinois for candidates without an active IL license providing direct care
