Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks (preferred; 13 weeks acceptable)
Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
Job Description
- Position in a high-acuity Cardiac/Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Requires experience in cardiac critical care, including ventilator management and advanced cardiac support devices
- Floating within the service line may be required
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend
- No on-call responsibilities
- Must be located at least 75 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
- Pending licenses accepted
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri (pending licenses accepted)
- Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Must pass a Relias EKG competency exam prior to start
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
Clinical Skills & Special Requirements
- Experience with:
- Ventilator management
- Arterial line and pulmonary artery catheter management
- Pacemakers, Impellas, balloon pumps, LVADs
- Acute heart failure, CHF exacerbation, fluid overload
- Post cardiac arrest care, complete heart block, cardiogenic shock
- Pre-heart transplant care
- Arrhythmias including ventricular tachycardia
- Vasoactive drips, central lines, PA/TVP catheter monitoring
- Dialysis and Foley catheter care
- Intra-aortic balloon pumps
Work Schedule & Hours
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week (can sign for 36 or 48 hours)
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Time off allowed: up to 2 requests, max 40 hours (5 days) during contract
Licensing & Compliance
- Missouri RN license required (pending licenses accepted)
- Primary source verification of professional license required
- NURSYS verification required for Missouri licenses
- Background checks including criminal, statewide, and federal exclusions required
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must remain valid throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start required
- Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health documents required (Tdap, TB testing, MMR, Varicella, Flu vaccination or exemption)
- Various facility-specific compliance documents and trainings required prior to start
Additional Requirements
- Must complete unit-specific competency exams annually, including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency
- Must complete facility orientation modules (~16 hours) via online platform prior to start
- Must adhere to facility dress code, hand hygiene, fingernail, and latex allergy policies
- Must provide two professional references (supervisors preferred)
- Must complete employment application and skills checklist relevant to unit
Notes
- No neuro ICU experience required; focus is strictly cardiac ICU
- Floating may occur within the service line as needed
- Parking fees apply for day shifts; no charge for straight night shifts
- Facility uses EPIC for charting
This position is ideal for experienced CVICU nurses with strong cardiac critical care skills seeking a travel contract in Missouri. Prior travel experience is mandatory.
