Registered Nurse - MS/Telemetry
Location: Massena, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Shift: 7 AM - 7 PM
- Weekend Coverage: Every Other Weekend (EOW)
- Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:6
- Nights: 1:7
- Weekends: 1:8
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty
- No first-time travelers accepted
- Must live more than 50 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
Required Skills & Patient Diagnoses
- Experience with MS/Telemetry unit
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Blood product administration
- Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Care for patients with:
- COPD
- Pneumonia
- Non-specific abdominal pain
- Cellulitis
- Chest pain rule out
- CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident)
- Seizure disorders
- Substance withdrawal
- BiPAP/CPAP management and maintenance
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), Nasal Cannula, Non-invasive airway management
- Oxygen administration and oxygen tanks
- Isolation precautions and PPE use
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
- Scrubs: Any nursing uniform color
Technology & Systems
- Epic experience required
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- 7-year criminal background check including all aliases and multiple registry checks
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification from registrar’s office (transcripts/diplomas not accepted)
- State nursing license verification (NY State online verification required within 30 days of start)
- NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
- Harassment prevention training certificate (New York, required annually)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required by profession
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required
- Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
- Review of patient confidentiality, sexual harassment prevention, patient experience training, and compliance attestations prior to start
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific mask types required)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years (TD not accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire if applicable
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer, vaccination, or documented history)
- Drug testing required within 5 days of contract signing (specific panels depending on booking date)
- Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of contract start
Additional Requirements
- 7-year work history verification (attestation letter accepted as last resort)
- Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
- Two professional references required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Telemetry experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Proficient in use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Skilled in blood product administration
- Experienced in PICC line management
- Competent in care for patients with CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident)
- Proficient in BiPAP/CPAP management
- Experienced with High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Skilled in non-invasive airway management
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not accepted for first-time travelers on this assignment.
- Candidates must be able to meet all health and compliance requirements promptly after contract signing.
- Strict adherence to expiration dates on health documents is required; renewals must be completed prior to expiration during the contract.
- Weekend coverage is every other weekend.
