Job Opportunity: Infusion Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• Provide nursing care primarily for hematology/oncology patients and some non-oncology cases (e.g., Ulcerative Colitis).
• Administer chemotherapy, iron infusions, injections, blood transfusions, non-oncology infusions, hydration, and pain management.
• Unit consists of 13 rooms with 2 beds and approximately 30 patient visits per day.
• Patient ratio is approximately 1:8.
• Shift options:

  • Flexible, 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM, 4 days per week
  • OR 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, 5 days per week
• No on-call requirements.
• Block scheduling is approved as per shift details.
• Locals are accepted.
• Time off requests must be submitted and approved prior to offer.
• First-time travelers are accepted.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience, including infusion nursing.
• Infusion nursing experience within the last year.
• Experience in hematology/oncology nursing.

Required Certifications & Licenses

• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at start.
• Chemotherapy Certification: ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate required for adult chemo; pediatric chemo cert must be from Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON).
• IV Certification: Required for all RNs except those in OR specialties. Must be current or completed by June 1, 2026.
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit or specialty (confirm with coordinator):

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Not required for this oncology infusion role.
  • PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification – Not required for this role.

Prior Travel Experience

• Prior travel experience is not required.

Patient Care Focus

• Hematology/Oncology and some non-oncology infusion patients.
• Procedures include chemotherapy, iron infusions, injections, blood transfusions, hydration, and pain management.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Criminal background check within 30 days of start.
• Drug screen within 30 days of start.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
• Respiratory medical clearance and fit testing prior to start.
• Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
• Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination.
• Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exams and other required competency exams within specified timeframes.
• Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
• Two professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
• Compliance with state-specific exclusions and verifications as applicable.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must provide government-issued photo ID and driver’s license within 48 hours of signing.
• All required certifications must be current or have renewal confirmation if expiring within a month of start.
• Candidates must complete required pass/fail testing (e.g., pharmacology, EKG) with remediation if needed.
• Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation materials must be completed prior to start.
• Candidates switching between sites with less than 30 days gap may have some documentation accepted from prior assignment.

This position offers a flexible infusion nursing role with a focus on chemotherapy and related treatments in a fast-paced outpatient setting. It is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of infusion or oncology experience who hold the necessary certifications and are comfortable with the specified patient ratios and shift options.
