Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit: Complex Intervention Unit (Adult Med Surg / Acute Care)
- 18-bed adult acute care unit divided into:
- 6 beds Acute Care side (1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio)
- 12 beds Behavioral Health side (1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio)
- Patients have co-occurring medical and behavioral health conditions
- RN floats within scope to meet facility needs
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, with holiday rotation
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Licensure & Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit (verify with recruiter)
Work Environment & Additional Info
- Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrub color: Solid Royal Blue or White top with Royal Blue bottoms
- Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9) and valid driver’s license/state ID
- Background checks including 7-year history and various federal/state registries
- Education verification (diploma/transcripts) required
- Nursys license verification required
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days of start
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days of start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
- Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Annual flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (flu season August 1 - March 31)
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if positive history
- Physical exam updated annually attesting ability to meet job demands
- Color blind testing required prior to start
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
- Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
Orientation & Onboarding
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start
- COVID vaccination not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Facility-specific instructions and documentation will be provided after clearance
Note: This position requires flexibility to float between medical-surgical and behavioral health sides of the unit as needed.
