Registered Nurse - MedSurg Telemetry (Days)
Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for MedSurg Telemetry unit working day shifts. The position involves caring for neurology/stroke patients with a patient ratio of 1:7.
Schedule
- Days, weekdays, every other weekend (EOW), float, and holidays within contract
- Shift options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (overtime after 48 hours)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with IV starts
- Experience caring for neurology and stroke patients
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
Patient Care
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 7 patients
- Must be pre-closed on patient ratio before submission
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check: 7-year criminal history check with zero tolerance for any hits
- Must provide current NURSYS report and Qualivis Cover Sheet including Return to Office (RTO) documentation
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 mask within 1 year, updated annually (PAPR not allowed)
- Immunizations and titers required within 10 years or valid declinations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for certain units)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start, with additional documentation if history of positive TB
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination required or approved exemption (mask required if exempt)
- COVID vaccine preferred but not required (documentation collected if available)
Testing & Competencies
- Pass/fail EKG/medication competency test at orientation (80% minimum, one attempt only)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blindness test (100% passing score required)
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
Additional Requirements
- Passport-style photo for badge (specific photo requirements)
- Completion of facility-specific documents including job description and acknowledgment forms
- Fingerprinting required starting 1/1/2026 with specific procedures for scheduling and submission
- Proof of 2 professional references
- Completed employment application/resume
- Performance evaluation if previously worked with the facility for 1 year or more
Notes
- Facility has zero tolerance for any license or background issues; candidates with any hits will be disqualified
- Auto offer position (no interview required)
- Must indicate shift preference (3x12 or 4x12) when applying
This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg Telemetry RNs with neurology/stroke experience who have prior travel contract experience and meet strict compliance and certification requirements.
