Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Lees Summit, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 7:15)
- Work Setting: General Emergency Department (combined Adult/Pediatrics)
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Facility Type: Community Hospital with 240 staffed beds (32 rooms)
- Charting System: EPIC
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Floating: Floating within scope to all metro EDs and possibly other departments/units as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Yes, every third weekend (8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, combination of Friday/Saturday/Sunday)
- Holiday Shifts & Charge RN Assignments: May be required
- Local Candidates: Not accepted; home must be at least 75 miles from facility
- First-Time Travelers: Not accepted (prior travel experience required)
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days off
- Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- State-specific searches and highway patrol checks as required
- Education Verification: Highest nursing education must be verified before start
- Drug Testing: Within 1 year of start, must include full panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP) and be valid throughout assignment
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask (N95) testing annually, must be able to pass fit test (facial hair restrictions apply)
- Immunizations or immunity documentation for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer, vaccination, or medical exemption)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (2-step PPD or equivalent)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Unit-specific competency exam (updated annually)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 12 months of start (minimum 80% pass rate)
- References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment Application: Must be completed and uploaded
- Skills Checklist: Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Badge Photo: Recent (within 6 months), head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions
- Mandatory Policies & Acknowledgements: HIPAA, Latex Allergy, Confidentiality, Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, Dress Code
- Orientation Modules: Required for all RNs, completed through online platform before start (approx. 16 hours)
- Regulatory Compliance Education: Annual quiz with minimum 80% score required
- Other: May require Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification depending on unit
Summary
This is a night shift travel RN position in an emergency room setting requiring a minimum of 2 years RN experience and prior travel experience. The role demands strong pediatric, psychiatric, respiratory, neurological, cardiac, and orthopedic nursing skills. Candidates must be willing to float within the metro area and work every third weekend. Comprehensive compliance, health, and competency requirements must be met prior to start. Local candidates are not eligible.
