Job Opportunity: Outpatient Clinic Hematology Oncology Nurse
Location: Richmond, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a fast-paced outpatient clinic serving bone marrow transplant and CAR-T patients.
- Rotate through infusion/day hospital, lab/port draw, clinic, and bone marrow biopsy suite.
- Administer and manage chemotherapy/biotherapy, including investigational protocols.
- Perform transfusions of blood, platelets, and fresh frozen plasma.
- Conduct port draws, phlebotomy, central line access, and central line care.
- Assist in procedural area with bone marrow biopsy/aspiration (minimal analgesia and recovery).
- Manage toxicities related to chemotherapy/biotherapy.
- Monitor and manage patients with neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia, and electrolyte abnormalities including repletion.
- Acceptable experience includes inpatient oncology and infusion clinic; no other outpatient clinic experience accepted.
Shift Details
- Day shift, 4 days per week
- 9.5-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of hematology/oncology nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 60 days including:
- All states lived/worked in past 7 years
- State of permanent residence check
- Statewide repository search
- Sex offender registry
- Education verification
- E-Verify, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Education verification: degree from NLN or CCNE accredited nursing program required.
- Fingerprinting per Virginia State Police requirements (may start with proof of submission on file; results can pend).
- Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search process must be initiated within 48 hours of contract signing; may start with results pending if submission proof is on file.
- Two professional references required.
- Complete employment application/resume required.
- Annual skills checklist required.
Orientation and Facility Specifics
- Orientation includes pharmacology exam, point of care testing, airborne precaution mask fitting (not pass/fail).
- Additional assessments for Tele/Step-Down, Progressive Care, and ICU nurses.
- Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week.
- Candidates must bring mask (cloth acceptable), non-wireless headphones, and laptop or cell phone (notify if not available).
