Description

Registered Nurse – ER

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00–7:00)
  • Hours per week: 36 (option for 48 hours available)
  • Weekends required; scheduled days vary based on staffing needs
  • Every other holiday required
  • Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • At least 1 year of experience at a Level 1 trauma center, or 2 years of experience at a Level 2 trauma center including pediatric experience
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – must have before start; can submit with pending
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – must have before start; can submit with pending
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – must have before start; can submit with pending

License Requirements

  • Valid Virginia RN license required; can submit application with license pending

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
  • Education verification through a third-party vendor; BSN preferred, ASN required if no BSN
  • Official transcript acceptable in lieu of diploma (photocopy not accepted)
  • Fingerprinting (Virginia State Police) may be required depending on unit
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check required if assigned to behavioral health or specific units (processed within 45 days prior to start)
  • Drug testing within 2 months of start, updated annually; 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no declinations/exemptions)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella – 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no declinations/exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody positive titer required or antigen titer if antibody low/negative
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or titer required (declination required if titer negative)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions/declinations)

Additional Requirements

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Completion of skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
  • Pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
  • Review and initial professional appearance guidelines, traveler compliance, and other facility-specific documents prior to start
  • Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles (completed onsite if required)

Scheduling and Time Off

  • Maximum 40 hours approved for time off
