PACU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Colorado Springs, CO


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PACU)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado
  • Shift Options:
    • Night Shift: 3:00 AM – 3:30 PM
    • Evening Shift: 3:00 PM – 3:30 AM
  • Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Unit Details: Phase 1 PACU, 16 rooms, charting in Epic
  • Scrub Color: Navy blue tops and bottoms; or black pants with navy top
  • Floating: No floating between units required
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, per unit needs
  • On-call Requirement: Yes, per unit needs
  • High acuity, critical care, and Level 1 PACU experience required

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado
  • Minimum 1 year of recent PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients and Level 1 trauma experience
  • Critical care experience
  • One completed travel assignment
  • Certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year background check including SSN trace, Colorado state checks, education verification (accredited nursing school), sex offender search, OFAC sanctions list, and others within 60 days of start
  • Employment History:
    • Verification of last 3 years of employment with explanations for gaps over 30 days
    • 2 professional references from the last 2 years, including one from the last year (Charge RN, Manager, Supervisor, or above)
  • Employment Application: Must include 3 years of employment history with current contact info
  • Skills Checklist: Annual requirement
  • Competency Exams: Must be completed within 1 year and updated annually with minimum 80% score for:
    • Medication/Pharmacology
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG (for ICU, Med/Surg, Tele, Stepdown, PCU, ER, Neuro ICU, etc.)
    • Core Parts I, II, III
    • OSHA Mandatory Training
  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA (not Chiropractor)
  • Fit Mask Test: Annual fit test required for specified masks (3M 1860S, 1860R, 1870/1870+) with onsite testing option
  • Immunizations & Health:
    • TDAP vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 1 year
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with annual updates if positive TB history
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity via titer or vaccines
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella immunity via titer or vaccines
    • COVID-19 vaccine proof or signed declination (acceptable vaccines: AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna)
  • Drug Testing: Within 30 days of start and annually, including a comprehensive panel (Amphetamine, Barbiturate, Benzodiazepine, Buprenorphine, Cocaine, Methadone, Methamphetamine, Morphine, Oxycodone)
  • Color Blind Exam: Ishihara exam required prior to start (online testing not accepted for new candidates)
  • State-Specific: Colorado CAPS check results within 60 days of start

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete facility-specific new employee orientation modules within the first two weeks of assignment
  • Legal name change documentation must be provided if applicable, and certifications/licensure must reflect current legal name
  • Candidates with employment gaps of 15+ days are considered new and must meet full requirements
  • Candidates must confirm renewal plans for any certifications expiring within 90 days of assignment start to avoid clearance issues

This position requires a highly skilled PACU RN with critical care experience, current certifications, and prior travel contract experience. The role involves working rotating 12-hour shifts with weekend and on-call responsibilities in a high-acuity environment.
