Registered Nurse - PCU (Night Shift) - Travel/Contract
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work on a fast-paced Adult Admission Inpatient Unit (AAU) adjacent to the Emergency Department.
- Unit functions as an admission holding area for admitted patients before transfer to one of 11 progressive care units (mix of Med-Surg, Med-Surg/Telemetry, and PCU acuity).
- Patient ratio: 1 RN to 4-5 patients.
- Unit has 17 beds plus up to 8 hall beds.
- Patient population is diverse, excluding ICU-level patients.
- Float required within scope to ED admitted patients, ICU for sub-acute care, and inpatient PCU areas.
- Relief charge nurse duties may be required.
- Shift: Night, 4 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM).
- Locals within 100 miles are not accepted.
- First-time travelers accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
Work Environment & Additional Details
- Facility is a Level I Trauma, Children’s, Teaching, Short-term Acute Care hospital with 554 staffed beds.
- Charting system: Cerner
- Parking: No fee
- Contract requires a minimum of 10 weeks for new contracts and extensions.
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative travel work at this facility.
- Facility allows contracted hours of 36, 40, or 48 hours per week; facility may call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment.
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: absences greater than 7 days require approval.
- Block scheduling may be considered.
Important Notes
- No RQI certifications accepted for ACLS or BLS.
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam is mandatory and must be passed within two attempts; remediation is available if needed.
- Fingerprinting is required onsite during orientation; candidates who completed fingerprinting within the past 12 months do not need to repeat.
- Candidates must be prepared for frequent patient turnover ("turn and burn") on the unit.
- The unit requires the ability to handle multiple patient admissions and transfers efficiently.
This position is ideal for RNs with telemetry skills who are comfortable in a fast-paced, diverse inpatient setting and are open to travel assignments with floating responsibilities.
