Registered Nurse - ER Holding (Travel/Contract)
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum 10 weeks for new contracts and extensions)
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 19:00 - 7:30)
Hours per Week: 48 hours (contracted hours; facility may call off up to 3 times during assignment)
Unit & Patient Population
- Adult Admission Inpatient Unit (AAU) functions as an admission holding unit next to the Emergency Department.
- Fast-paced environment with frequent patient turnover (admitting and transferring).
- Patient ratio: 1 RN to 4-5 patients.
- 17 beds plus up to 8 hall beds.
- Patient population is diverse, covering all specialties except ICU-level patients.
- Unit acuity includes Medical-Surgical, Medical-Surgical/Telemetry, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) levels.
Job Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret telemetry and dysrhythmias.
- Manage a variety of medical equipment.
- Time management and multitasking in a fast-paced setting.
- Relief charge nurse duties may be required; willingness to float to adjacent units including ICU for sub-acute care and inpatient PCU areas.
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs is mandatory.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Direct Observation Unit (DOU) within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Successful completion of Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam
- Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Night shift, 4x12 hour shifts preferred.
- No on-call requirement.
- Block scheduling may be considered.
- No local candidates accepted within 100 miles radius.
- COVID-19 vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: absences longer than 7 days require approval.
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative travel work at this facility.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted).
- Negative drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year (specific N95 masks required; PAPR accommodations available if needed).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B (declination, series, or titer accepted)
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted via facility-specific form.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and fingerprinting (done onsite during orientation).
- Employment application with at least 3 years of work history verification required.
- Two professional references within the last 3 years required.
- Skills checklist and competency exams required.
- Cerner training attestation required for new hires starting 8/4/25 orientation group (test-out option available).
- Traveler compliance and confidentiality forms must be completed.
