Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Creve Coeur, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 20 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Unit & Patient Population
- Medical-Surgical unit with an average daily census of 14 patients
- Unit size: 26 rooms, 41 beds
- Patient focus includes short stay orthopedic (majority joint replacement surgery), urology, and plastics surgery patients
- Floating within scope to the med-surg unit may be required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience in Orthopedics, Urology, and Plastic Surgery patient care
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Facility & Work Environment
- Short Term Acute Care facility
- Total staffed beds: 68
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrub color: Navy (top, jacket, and bottom)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
- Primary source verification of professional nursing license required (NURSYS for Missouri)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing required annually (N95 respirators accepted)
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Required facility-specific documents prior to start:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire
- Confidentiality Form
- Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
- TB Questionnaire (annual)
- Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment
- Fingernail Policy acknowledgment
- Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
- Orientation modules (approx. 16 hours, completed via online platform)
Skills & Competencies
- Unit-specific competency exam required annually
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
- Skills checklist within 1 year of start, including oncology skills if assigned to oncology unit
- Ability to float within scope to med-surg unit
Additional Notes
- Candidates must adhere to a 7-day return-to-office restriction after assignment
- References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
- Employment application must be submitted and uploaded for facility review
- Candidates must have a badge photo taken within 6 months of start date (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions)
This position offers a night shift travel nursing opportunity in a short-term acute care setting with a focus on orthopedic and post-surgical care. The role requires strong clinical skills, EPIC experience, and flexibility to float within the med-surg unit. Compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, and facility-specific policies is mandatory.
