Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: South Hill, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Position in a community hospital setting.
- Locals allowed at the same rate.
- Requires certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWONN (either intermediate or advanced level).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year
- Certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
- All states lived/worked in past 7 years
- State of permanent residence
- Statewide repository search
- Nationwide and FACIS Level 3 checks
- Sex offender registry
- Education verification (degree from NLN or CCNE accredited program)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Fingerprinting required for certain units; for Labor and Delivery, fingerprinting is required.
- Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search and submission required within 48 hours of contract signing; candidates may start with results pending if proof of submission is on file.
- Proof of submission for fingerprinting and CPS must be submitted within 48 hours of confirmation.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted).
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
- Medical fit mask test within 1 year prior to start (N95 or PAPR required).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (Q-gold/T-spot within 30 days or two PPDs)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccination with boosters if low titers
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Flu vaccine or approved exemption required for the flu season (declinations not accepted without exemption).
- Latex questionnaire required prior to start.
- HIPAA confidentiality agreement required prior to start.
- Abuse reporting competency covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, and neglect/exploitation of vulnerable adults.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required.
- Color blindness testing required.
- Orientation includes exams/tests such as pharmacology, point of care testing, airborne precaution mask fitting, and Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for Tele/Step-Down, Progressive Care, and ICU units.
Additional Notes
- No onsite certification renewals; renewals must be scheduled by the agency.
- Certifications expiring within 1 month of contract start are not accepted.
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service.
- Photo for badge must meet specific criteria (neutral background, no hats except religious coverings, clear facial visibility).
- Candidates must complete assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week.
- Performance evaluations will be completed at the end of the assignment, not required prior to start.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs who meet the certification and compliance requirements and are comfortable working night shifts in a community hospital setting.
