Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Description

  • 24-bed Thoracic Cardiovascular ICU (TCV ICU)
  • Patient population includes those undergoing cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgical procedures such as CABG, valve replacement/repair, heart transplantation, and lung transplantation

Schedule

  • Night shift: 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • 36 or 48 hours options available
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • Block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
  • Maximum 40 hours allowed for time off

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
  • Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVICU)
  • Minimum years of experience: Not explicitly stated; assume standard CVICU RN experience expected (typically 1-2 years critical care experience preferred)
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of I9 or attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification (BSN preferred; ASN minimum if no BSN)
  • Transcript or official diploma (photocopies not accepted)
  • Education verification through third-party vendor
  • Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit; facility will notify if needed
  • Abuse registry search required only for specific units (not applicable here)
  • Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Drug testing within 2 months of start, including 10-panel screen with marijuana and fentanyl
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap (no exemptions)
    • 2-step TB test or Qgold (Tspot not accepted)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer; no declinations)
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody positive titer or antigen titer protocol
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or titer; declination accepted but must be documented)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (no exemptions)
  • Fit testing for patient-facing clinical roles (completed onsite if required)
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Facility-specific compliance forms and release authorizations must be completed prior to start

Orientation & Testing

  • Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exams required as applicable

Additional Notes

  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
  • Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the agency over 1 year
  • Employment application/resume required
  • Skills checklist must be updated annually for applicable units
