Job Opportunity: PACU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Shift: Day shift, 4x10-hour shifts (6:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
- Guaranteed 40 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- No block scheduling
- No call requirements
- Time off (RTO) restrictions: Maximum 5 days off, no more than 2 consecutive days; no time off before/after holidays or on weekends
- Mandatory floating within scope of practice to other units as needed
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of recent PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in an acute care setting
- Certifications required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
Competencies & Testing Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required within 12 months prior to start if starting on/after 4/14/24)
- Color Blind Testing Online (required within 12 months prior to start if starting on/after 1/16/24)
- Competency Exam (required within 12 months prior to start if starting on/after 4/14/24)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year prior to start, updated annually; medical or religious exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months prior to start, updated annually (PPD not accepted as of 12/15/2025)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months prior to start
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; low titer requires booster
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; low titer requires booster
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year prior to start
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start, updated annually (marijuana not required)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/1 – ~4/1)

- Parking: Adjacent garage, approximately 2–3 minute walk to hospital entrance

- Prior travel experience is not required for this position
- Background checks and verifications must be current and comply with Illinois state and facility requirements
- Floating to other units is mandatory as per facility policy
