Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Interventional Radiology

Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Schedule & Work Details

  • Shift: Sunday to Thursday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (Day shift, 5x8 hours)
  • Hours per week: 40
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays, based on unit needs
  • Floating: Must float within skillset without exception; ratios vary by census, acuity, and staffing
  • Circulate in Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures
  • Call-off policy: Allowed 1 shift call-off per 2 weeks
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Locals accepted at the same rate

Required Qualifications

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid RN license in New Jersey
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association

Education

  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of Interventional Radiology experience within the last year
  • Procedural experience in OR/CVOR or Cath Lab considered
  • Proficient PICC and midline nurse
  • Ability to administer moderate sedation
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Documentation & Compliance

Background & Screening

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
  • Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • Work history verification for at least 1 year prior to start (New Jersey state requirement)
  • Two professional references within last 2 years (one managerial)

Health & Immunizations

  • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Negative TB test (IGRA or 2-step PPD) within required timeframes; additional clearance if history of positive TB
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption annually (flu season Sept-April)
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance prior to start (mandatory on-site fit testing)
  • Latex allergy screening questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
  • Color vision test if job tasks require color discrimination

Competency & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 72 hours of signing, required within 12 months of start
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam as applicable
  • IV Therapy/Infusion exam required for all RNs (except OR specialties)
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge with remediation policy
  • Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required

Additional Certifications (if applicable)

  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) for ER, Pediatric ER, Behavioral Health RNs
  • NIH Stroke Certification for adult critical care and emergency units
  • Chemotherapy certification if working with chemo patients (ONS/ONCC or APHON for pediatric)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) for Mother-Baby, Labor & Delivery RNs

Unit & Hospital Highlights

  • Work in a quaternary care teaching hospital with nationally recognized cardiac and transplant programs
  • Interventional Radiology services include minimally invasive, image-guided procedures for vascular, oncologic, and complex medical conditions
  • High-acuity patient population including cardiac and transplant cases

Notes

  • Candidates must provide required documentation timely to clear (e.g., driver’s license within 48 hours of signing)
  • Floating and schedule requests require prior approval with documentation
  • Facility-specific policies and annual requirements must be adhered to throughout assignment

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity, specialized Interventional Radiology unit with comprehensive support and clear compliance requirements.
