Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Saint Louis, Missouri


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts guaranteed per 13-week contract
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted within 75-mile radius
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience, with Neuro ICU experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

  • Hospital Designations: Magnet & Teaching Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
  • Total Staffed Beds: 1,266
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Orientation includes completion of stroke education hours and unit-specific training modules
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam prior to or during orientation
  • Parking during orientation requires payment; night shift parking is free in employee lots
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months of start)

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 6 months of start (7-year search including statewide and nationwide)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (quarterly updates required)
    • State-specific searches and registries as applicable
  • Education Verification: Highest nursing education must be verified before start
  • Drug Testing: Required within 1 year of start; must include full panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations & Health Documents:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 – Apr 1)
  • Fit Mask Testing: Annual N95 fit test required; must be able to shave facial hair if needed
  • Additional Facility Documents:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
    • Confidentiality Form
    • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
    • Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code Policies acknowledgment
    • Vehicle Registration (for day shift workers)

References & History

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred within last year)
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Performance evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for extensions or per diem

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to manage complex neuro ICU patients requiring advanced monitoring and interventions
  • Must be willing to work night shifts and meet weekend requirements
  • No on-call duties required
  • Must comply with all facility-specific policies and complete required training modules promptly
