Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: Weekdays with occasional weekends and rotating holidays
- Float Requirement: Must be willing to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 5 patients
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Key Responsibilities:
- Provide patient care in PCU
- Perform IV starts and telemetry monitoring
- Use Epic system for documentation
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with telemetry monitoring
- Experience using Epic electronic health record system
Competencies & Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)
Background & Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
- Social Security trace
- Counties lived/worked
- Nationwide search
- Sex offender registry
- Motor Vehicle Record (if driving required)
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- State license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RN license
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or TB questionnaire in lieu
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Hepatitis B – Titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed if working with infants or pregnant patients
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); mask required if declining
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
Facility Policies & Training
- Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually
- Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
