Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - Cardiac focus
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 7:15)
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5; may occasionally flex to 1:6
- Facility Type: Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital, Level 1 Trauma, 5-time Magnet Recognized
- Charting System: EPIC
- Parking: Free
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Cardiac nursing experience
- Experience working in a teaching hospital environment
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Work Requirements
- Weekend shifts: Minimum 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday, Saturday, Sunday combination)
- Floating: May be required to float within scope to other departments, units, or facilities
- Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
- Locals accepted within local radius
- Pending licenses not accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed minimum hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver's license)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
- Professional license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required
- Unit-specific competency exams including dysrhythmia/EKG competency within 12 months of start
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blindness testing within 12 months of start
- Skills checklist specific to unit required within 1 year of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and remain valid throughout assignment
- Annual fit mask (N95) testing required; facial hair must allow proper fit or must be shaved
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (or Td for renewals)
- Negative TB screening (2-step PPD or equivalent) or chest x-ray if history positive
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)
- Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Orientation modules through online platform required for all RNs before start (approx. 16 hours)
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
Additional Notes
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- On-call not required
- Block scheduling not accommodated
- References: Two professional references required; supervisors within last year preferred
- Employment application must be submitted and uploaded for facility review
- Performance evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for extensions or per diem status
