Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU

Location

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Shift Details

  • Day shift
  • Typical schedule: 4 shifts of 10 hours (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM), totaling 40 hours per week
  • Alternative schedule: 2 shifts of 10 hours and 2 shifts of 8 hours (36 hours per week)

Specialty & Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVICU)
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience required (screening may consider 2 years)
  • Prior travel experience not explicitly required
  • First-time travelers accepted

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current RN license (state-specific)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only; certificates of completion not accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only; certificates of completion not accepted
  • Other certifications (PALS, NRP) as applicable
  • Must pass facility-specific competency testing (EKG/Medication) upon orientation

Required Skills & Experience

  • VAD (Ventricular Assist Device) Coordinator experience required
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required
  • Expertise in managing VAD equipment and alarms, including:
    • Equipment integrity checks and replacements in clinic settings
    • Troubleshooting alarms and equipment issues in OR and procedural areas
    • Device downloads and escalation procedures
  • Ability to independently triage patient issues via call center, emergency line, and patient portal
  • Strong patient and caregiver education skills related to VAD devices
  • Approximately 80% outpatient work with some procedural area involvement
  • Experience with durable VAD devices such as HeartMate 3, HeartMate 2, and BrioVAD
  • Managing destination therapy patients (approx. 210 patients currently)

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage patient and caregiver education
  • Provide routine and urgent telehealth care
  • Emergency patient management over the phone
  • Clinic visits and equipment management
  • Serve as expert resource for VAD alarms and equipment in hospital and procedural settings

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • I9 or attestation verification
  • Background checks including 7-year history, sex offender registry, nationwide checks, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG verifications (updated annually)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (N95 or equivalent masks)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive, must have clear chest X-ray within 5 years and complete annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B as per facility policy
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions permitted)
  • Facility-specific confidentiality, code of conduct, conflict of interest, sexual harassment, and misconduct policy attestations must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Completion of required orientation paperwork within 3 weeks of start date

References & Evaluations

  • Two recent professional references required (must be from managers or supervisors; charge RN references not accepted)
  • Facility will complete performance evaluation during assignment

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Michigan
  • Minimum 3 years of CVICU nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
