Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Guilford, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Evening (3x12 hours, 3:00 PM – 3:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Emergency Department (ED)
- Average nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
- Block scheduling: Not accommodated
- Assigned primarily to one campus with possible rotation to others (travelers excluded from trauma/rescue rooms, triage, and locked behavioral health units)
- Guaranteed hours
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Connecticut
- Emergency Department (ED) experience of at least 1.5 years, including experience within the last year
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background checks: 7-year criminal background check (updated annually), EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification: Highest level of education must be verified; foreign equivalency reports required for internationally educated candidates
- Employment history: 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days; verification required
- Skills checklist: Required within 12 months of start
- Physical exam: Required within 12 months of start
- Drug testing: 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for pediatric specialties, labor/delivery, postpartum)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
- COVID vaccination preferred but not required
Competency and Training Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score)
- Color blindness test (minimum 80% score; required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, ICU, Progressive Care, PACU, IR/Cath Lab, Endoscopy, GI units (not required for NICU or Behavioral Health)

- CAUTI Education Training (not required for PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Stroke Education (not required for pediatric specialties or NICU)

- AME Blood Administration Module (not required for Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (required for ED/ER RNs)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap of 6+ months between assignments or module updated)
- EPIC testing or training (highly encouraged for ER RNs with Epic experience)
Health and Safety Requirements
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 12 months, updated annually; clean-shaven required for fit testing
- Medical or religious exemptions for mask fit test must be approved as per policy
- Drug screen and physical exam documentation must be current and uploaded appropriately
Additional Notes
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
- Parking cost: $125/month (for informational purposes)
