Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
- Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week (facility may call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment)
- Patient Ratio: 1:1
- Weekend Requirement: 2-3 weekends per month
- On-call Requirement: Yes, 24-36 hours per month on day shift
- Floating: No floating outside scope of practice
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Locals: Not accepted within 100 miles radius
- Pending License: Accepted with approval
- RTO Restrictions: Time off greater than 7 days requires approval
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Trauma experience required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) recommended
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (verify with leadership)
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required for certain units (score 80%+ with 100% on lethal arrhythmia section)
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam required (minimum 80% score)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB/MOAB) certification required for Behavioral Health units (can be obtained onsite if not held prior)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification may be required depending on unit
Facility & Work Environment
- Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Short-term acute care
- Total Staffed Beds: 554
- Charting system: Cerner
- Scrub color: Purple scrubs provided
- Parking: No fee
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative work, whichever comes first
- Overtime paid after 48 hours per week (effective 10/30/2025)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (Qgold, Tspot, or PPD with mm reading)
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Immunizations required:
- Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Declination, series, or titer acceptable
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted (facility-specific form required)
- Fit mask required within 1 year of start (specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodation available if needed)
- Negative drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- COVID vaccination no longer required but reporting still in place
Background & Documentation
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 1 year of start
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless completed within past 12 months)
- Education verification required (diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable)
- Employment application with at least 3 years of work history required
- Work history verification for 3 years required (attestation letters accepted)
- Two professional references within 3 years required
- Various facility-specific compliance forms and attestations required prior to start (e.g., traveler compliance form, confidentiality statement, emergency contact form, Cerner training attestation)
Additional Notes
- The location is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation
- Candidates must complete a background registration form accurately (including place of birth and SSN)
- Relias EKG exam must be completed within 4 days of signing; two attempts allowed before cancellation
- Returning candidates only retake Relias EKG exam if more than one year has passed since last assignment
- Orientation includes fingerprinting, safety manual acknowledgement, and possible certification testing
- Facility provides purple scrubs; no parking fees
